Anxiety disorder is an insidious disorder that has crept its way into many people’s lives. In fact, close to 20% of the US population suffers from this common affliction. Hence, it is so important to find ways to learn how to modulate it on your own that you are prepared for when it occurs. Courtesy of The NEO Chi Institute, here are some simple ways to fight back those anxious thoughts and feelings when they hijack your mind.

Address the cause of your anxiety

It’s vital to identify what it is that’s causing you distress if you want to be able to solve the problem. While some of these stress-inducing contributors are common to many people, at other times, you may need to seek the assistance of professionals to help you deal with any underlying issues that may be affecting your mental state without you even realizing it. Once you’ve identified the cause, anti depression meds and counseling can make a big difference, but there are plenty of other tactics you can try, as well.

Distract yourself by doing something you enjoy

When you practice distraction techniques, it’s about distracting yourself in those moments when you feel like panicking even more. So, when you feel an anxiety attack coming on, choose to focus on something else, and you’re sure to feel those worrisome feelings dissipate quickly.

Lean on the support of others

Anxiety disorders used to be something that was not often talked about or addressed for what it was. Nowadays, it’s easier to find the help you need through the various support networks available both online and in person.  If you don’t want to join a support group, you could also lean on the advice and support of your close inner circle to help talk you through the moments when you feel like your head is spinning out of control.

Make your home environment as stress-free as possible

Perhaps it’s your home office that’s making you feel out of sorts. Suppose clutter is standing in your way to emotional wellness. In that case, you could create a storage system for digital and paper records rather than setting up a filing system manually. For example, you can store all your paperwork easily and conveniently online through hybrid cloud storage software.

Or perhaps, it’s the rate at which your technology functions that’s raising your anxiety levels. If things are going a little slower than usual, you could update your technology so that it’s even faster and more efficient. For example, if you have a lot of paperwork to scan and email, then why not use a scanning app to speed up the process for you?

Exercise

One way to counteract unpleasant feelings and emotions is through your focus on wellbeing, especially exercise. And whilst you may feel like not doing anything, being outdoors and in the open, connecting with nature, can help to get those feel-good endorphins pumping throughout your body so that you can take back control of your mind.

Eat the right diet

According to research, the foods we consume can directly impact our mood and emotions. Therefore, if you are prone to suffering from anxiety attacks, eating a nutrient-rich diet will not only make you feel better but can also help to reduce the severity of anxiety attacks quite a bit. By the same token, you should do your best to avoid foods that are high in fat and sugar, as this can heighten your anxious feelings.

Overcoming anxiety is probably going to be a process. But it is possible to be well mentally by implementing a few basic lifestyle habits that are conducive to feeling healthier and happier overall.
